GSD 'BLUE' ( Devon)
Retired from police duties early due to handler becoming a specialist
(drugs and explo). He is 6 years old in June and has been an
excellent Police Dog. He is a GP Dog and tracking has been his
forte. He is also licensed for Firearms Support work and is
therefore very good at searching. I have been putting off doing
this as I really did not want to part with him but it is just
not practical for me to keep him.
I would really like for him to go to an experienced handler
and if it was someone that would work him as well that would
be even better. I am sure he would do very well at trials. BLUE
has had an injury to his grasilis muscle in his rear right leg
which causes him to walk with a strange gait but this does not
prevent him from running jumping or doing anything else. This
injury was one of the reasons that my role changed as at the
time the vet was undecided if BLUE would recover sufficiently
to be worked. I believe that he has recovered and could easily
return to operational duties if he had to.
I currently have three other dogs and BLUE is generally good
with dogs that he meets whilst out, However on the lead I tend
to avoid areas that attract lots of Dog walkers as people generally
are afraid of German Shepherds and I am always concerned that
they may react violently towards BLUE and then possibly be bitten.
BLUE is great indoors or out in his kennel and is not a barker
or a destroyer. He does constantly dig whilst out on a walk
or hang off of the branches of trees. I have never been able
to resolve this. It is something that the puppy walker encouraged
(for her amusement I think). However he will stop doing it when
told and it is much less an issue if he is stimulated by something
else ('work' or just having a ball in his mouth). He is still
entire.

WEIMERANER
'WARRICK' (Co. Durham)
Unfortunately after taking very bad advice to muzzle & restrain
Warrick for some unruly behaviour, people in the area regard him
as a monster and a dangerous dog as he barked and lunged at other
dogs. We now know this was frustration at not being allowed to
interact and in one training session with JAcquie HAll his muzzle
was taken off and he was playing off lead with 8 other dogs like
a puppy again....with absolutely no aggression at all!
The training with JAcquie has really given him a new lease of
life but we can not help him futher as people in my area who knew
the previous Warrick still take their dogs in the opposite direction
or threaten to report him if he goes near their dogs and we dare
not let him off lead as at the moment he is still wanting to go
and play! His recall is coming on but not totally trained yet!.
Warrick is nearly 4 years old now, he is fully house trained and
a real pleasure to be around in the house. His behaviour indoors
is impeciable, he has never chewed anything and never moves a
thing out of place even when left alone. He has a healthy balanced
diet on Oscars food and is generally not a greedy dog. He adores
being around people and loves to sit near the fire or radiator.
He really enjoys to play and is good at retrieving. He is a lovely,
playful, energitic and intelligent dog, he has so much to offer
someone. He has been wormed and fleaed this month and has had
all of his vaccinations and the next ones are due in August. He
was neutered just after Christmas. He recently visited the vet
as his ears were red and sore but they treated him with drops
and he has since been fine.
We would really like him to go somewhere were he can have more
freedom but also be given love and affection. Thank you so much
for everything you have done for Warrick so far, we would really
appreciate it if you could help find someone suitable for him.
Jacquie is prepared to give a reference for Warrick!
If there is anything else you need to know about him, you can
call Andrew Guy anytime on 07963 094703.

Leroy is now about 6mths
old and is a Lab X. He is vaccinated & is about to be neutered.
He spent 3 weeks ot TLC in Stella Morrow's kennels and is now in
foster with Suzy in Berkshire who says. “Leroy is a very intelligent
young boy, who is very keen to learn, and very keen to please you.
He is an adorable little soul who needs some guidance, and a firm
yet calm approach in dealing with some of his problems which have
arisen due to his sad start in life.
He is a very cheeky little thing and, if allowed, will get away
with being cheeky all the time. He gets on very well with both
my 3 yr old Rottweiler (Missy) and my 18 month old Labrador (Chester).
He is starting to walk nicely on the lead, but due to him being
so young, the training we have started will need to continue.
He sits when told, lays down when told, goes to bed when told,
and comes when he is called, again, continuation of training is
very important at this stage in his life, so he will need someone
who is willing to put the time and effort into him. He greets
other dogs with a sniff and a wag of his tail, and says 'hey,
lets play'.- he gets very excited and bouncy and is very much
a puppy
The problems with Leroy which need to be ironed out are simply
down to him needing to readjust to everyday life with humans and
dogs, as he had a very rocky start. He guards his toys with Chester
and Missy, and sometimes he will allow them to come near and have
a sniff, but other times he will let out a little growl or two
to say 'hey, this is mine, I am playing'!!
At feeding times, he is still being fed in his crate, as this
is where he feels more comfortable, in his own little space, he
is getting better as time goes on, and doesn't mind so much if
one of the dogs walks past him. When he first came here, he growled
to let them know not to come near but this is now getting a lot
better. I have a plan/time table in place to get Leroy to stop
being so guarding against his food and toys with both dogs and
us and every feeding time there is an improvement, as he wants
to please us, but for now it's just a case of building up the
trust between us and breaking the habit of food/toy guarding.
Leroy, if placed in the right home with people who are experienced
with dogs, and who have the time and patience to continue with
his training, will end up being a fantastic companion. He would
be very well suited to a home who can give him an outlet for his
drive and enthusiasm for learning. He would make a super agility
/ obedience / working trials dog. He needs to have someone who
can be firm, consistent, and above all, calm. I don't think he
would be suited to a family with young children, as he needs a
calm, quiet environment. He likes to be with us and loves his
belly rubs and cuddles."

| K-Nine-Care have Tizzy a
1 year old Springer Spaniel cross possibly with collie. She is a
small bitch only about 16 inches at the shoulder. This dog has the
most fantastic temperament, loves everyone except cats. She is a
lively intelligent dog but very easy to live with in the house,
housetrained, well behaved, no chewing or separation anxiety. Tizzy
adores kids, we prefer to rehome with kids over 10 years who know
how to treat a dog with respect although parents need to realise
she is lively so dog confident kids needed. Would love to live with
another friendly dog if possible. Travels well.
Tizzy has not been trained and she pulls on the lead for the
first 5 minutes then settles nicely so will be easy to train to
walk better. Potential owners will have to demonstrate a commitment
to attending dog training classes and show they are able to give
enough exercise - she will need loads of exercsie and mental stimulation.
This dog must be housed indoors and not be left alone for more
than 4 hours
Neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, treated for fleas and worms.
K-Nine-Care have a homecheck procedure and Adopton Contract. Dogs
are ALWAYS accepted back if unsuitable.

THE
ROLE OF WORKING DOGS CO-ORDINATOR AT BATTERSEA DOGS & CATS
HOME.
If

LOUIS
is a labrador, aged about 18mths old and recently neutered. He
is, at present, in a foster home.
He really is a lovely boy and all he needs is a home that he can
call his own.
He is excellent with
other dogs. He has run happily with other labradors (male and
female) and with golden retrievers aswell as a Bernese mountain
dog, a whippet, a GSD and a couple of crosses.
He is a typical young
lab who is full of beans and needs somebody active and experienced
to call his own. He reminds me of Chance in the Incredible Journey...............always
into everything and saying "what can I do next?" "life
is sooo exciting" "let me at it, let me at it".
He is very fit and
would make a great agility or working trials dog. He certainly
seems to have an active brain which he definitely needs to use
to keep him out of trouble. He loves people and he really does
want to please but, bless him, he doesn't always know how.
He has now encountered
a horse, who he barked at, but he recalled from the horse immediately
which was great. He does chase after cats that run (most dogs
do) but, apparently, when one stood it's ground, he totally lost
interest, which is absolutely fine.
People, mostly men,
have been pretty horrible to him in the past so he can still be
suspicious at first but he has now taken to a few different men
which is a huge step forward for him.
He is not food possessive
and will eat gently from your hand but, unfortunately, he will
guard stolen bootee. Any prospective adopter will have to be prepared
to give him time to settle and time for him to learn to trust
them whilst setting the ground rules from day one. He responds
extremely well to confident handling with plently of vocal rewards.
Louis is a very likeable
dog and one who, with a little work by someone, will turn into
a wonderful companion and friend.

I have rescued
a 18 month old border collie she was going to be shot, i
really don't have the room for her but could not bear to
see her hurt again, she has come with some issues, guards
her food, that is slowly being retrained not to guard the
dish, she guards her crate when in it, but she is only put
into that at night now, she is house trained and crate trained,
she does not like children so needs to be rehomed without
any children at all, she gets on with other dogs once she
has settled, i have had her 6 days and she is happily playing
with my pack, i have had her training at agility and she
loved it, also took her over the flyball jumps and loved
that, she loves and tennis ball and will play and play for
hours, she can be very sharp and nip when something moves
to fast typical collie, she has found the ball when i threw
it into long grass without a problem, she also can clear
a 4 foot fence without trying we found this out as she was
put behind it while i was getting equipment out she jumped
it without even trying she was sitting under neath it, she
needs to go to a working home, she is not a lap dog, i can
not keep her as i have all of my own, and my own young puppy,

only dog or one other older dog , she traveled well in my
van when i collected her from the family, please can anyone

My parents bought
a border collie puppy recently but since then my mother has
become ill and can no longer give her the care she needs.
They have therefore decided to try and rehome her.

seem to think that the behaviours I have described means
she should go to a working home.

| Good
home needed for Beth:
I have a lab x collie,
who I fostered as a puppy. Beth is black with a white streak down
her chest. She is a medium sized dog with a body not disimilar
to a lab but with a smallish face like a collie. She has been
neutered.
I have rehomed her twice, the first time she came back through
no fault of her own. The second time, she was returned because
she barked at people and other dogs when walked and the family
felt that they could not cope with it. She is very affectionate
with us; but shows fear aggression to those that she does not
know. The aggression shows itself mainly by barking, but she did
nip a visitor to our home. She is also a bit of a bully towards
one of my small dogs, but is fine with the others. Norman Mason
thinks that with training she would make a good trial dog. She
had a bad start to life and was dumped with her sister in a dustbin
when approx 12 weeks old. She really needs a good home with somebody
who would be committed to helping her. She is now 1 year old.

Benjamin
Benjamin is a 12 month old crossbreed who was originally a puppy
adopted when he was 8 weeks old. Unfortunately his last owners
did not carry out the necessary training and socialisation which
is vital for youngsters and he was returned to Dogs Trust because
of his boisterous behaviour. Benjamin is a very clever, obedient
dog who knows many commands and responds very well. He has a friendly
nature although is very lively. With other dogs he is ok but prefers
people! Benjamin is highly strung in kennels and as such does
not show himself well to visitors. We are looking for a committed
experienced home, where his training can be continued. We would
consider temporary foster carers, under our Home from Home scheme,
until a permanent home can be found. Please contact myself at
the centre if indeed you are interested.

BEN
Ben has been with us since January 2006. He has been re homed
once, but unfortunately this didn't work out. He is a fabulous
dog, and consequently we need a very special home for him. Being
a German Shepherd cross Rottweiler Ben is very intelligent. His
intelligence needs to be channelled in a way that Ben's new owner
gets the best out of him, and he is kept occupied in a positive
and constructive way.Ben is eager to learn and knows the commands
'sit, stay, down'. He loves playing with toys and enjoys ball
games. He retrieves, and will also search out a toy. Playing games
with Ben is an excellent way to bond with him. Because Ben is
strong willed and can be boisterous, we are teaching him ways
to be more polite when communicating with us. Ben travels well,
he is affectionate and loves cuddles. He enjoys his walks, and
loves sniffing around plants and trees!Ben needs a home where
he is the only companion animal, as he does enjoy chasing cats
and can be too boisterous for most dogs. Because of his size,
strength and his need to learn some manners, he would be unsuitable
in a home with children. If you have experience of a dog like Ben,
and believe you have the time, energy and commitment to look after
him, please make enquiries about him.Ben is a big dog with a rottie-type
head but the build and shape of a large shepherd.Ben has much
to give. To
